We have discussed about Non-Suppressible-Urges in our previous post. Today I would like to talk about Suppressible Urged which are known Mental Urges also. Some condemnable prohibited mental, verbal and physical works must not be done by a person who want’s his welfare. Holding of mental, verbal and physical suppressible urges is important and essential not only for personally but socially. Mentally suppressible urges are as follows :-

According Charaka Samhita Sootrasthana 7/27 It is sagacity to hold the following mentally urges :
1. Allurement
2. Mourning
3. Apprehension
4. Resentment
5. Haughtiness
6. Impudence
7. Envy
8. Excessive mentally affection
9. Desire to take other’s money .

There is no possibility of any mental disease in those persons who hold these urges. Some are verbal urges which must be held, such as speaking very rough and rudely, backbiting and lampooning. By holding these a person can be escaped of all those losses which may be trapped him.

Mentally urges such as vexing others, violence, theft and sex relationship with others than own wife or husband , must be held, since if these urges are not held then they create a very miserable condition of that person. A person who is free from these mentally urges he can lead very peaceful life. If we want a healthy, comfortable and prosperous life, sound body pious mind , sharp wisdom , we must learn the following lines of Charaka Samhita Sootrasthana 28/35 Everyone desires comfort and their temper is also to get comfort but the person who does only those works which are do able indeed with full prudence , he lives his life in comfort and on the other hand if he does opposite of it he has to bear a lot of grief. So if we want real comfort in our life then we must hold the suppressible urges.
